Pilose, 2020

M. Croft

Acrylic, gloss gel medium and matte gel medium on canvas

Pilose is inspired by the coping mechanisms or mannerisms developed during formative years. As long as trauma, residual grief and personality flaws are unresolved, they seep into the most minor aspects of life.

Thus, my normally joyful colour scheme is tainted with sickly undertones. The shapes are unpredictably organic as is life. These unusual configurations creep into the clean whites, obstructing their bright, newborn quality.

Something infectious pollutes these clear waters; all is perceivably well. One’s subconscious resides in the all-encompassing element of comfortability in the concept of familiar abstraction — home.
